They see me rollin'

Cotton & Co. is becoming quite the trail blazer within the collectable coin industry and our most recent acquisition is proof of that! We are happy to announce we are now rolling coins with our very own coin rolling machine. This makes us the only private company in Australia to be rolling and certifying collector coin rolls. Our machine, lovingly nick named “what’s that loud noise,” has been specifically modified for Numismatics purposes. This ensures that the process is not being as harsh on the coins and it produces only the highest quality coin rolls.

Our coin rolling machine is not the only new thing in office, we also have our specially designed Cotton & Co. rolling paper, with our label emblazed so you the customer knows its authentic.

The whole process from start to finish happens within our office doors meaning we can guarantee the quality and worth of each set rolled. We start by carefully removing the coins from their sets and begin the process of selecting coins to be rolled and sold.

The coins are then processed through our modified machine and rolled into their traditional format blocks of either 20 to 40 coins depending on the domination. This step is done in constant video surveillance to confirm the process and guarantee’s the high quality of our rolls.

We hand check each roll for imperfections or irregularities to ensure the quality. Each roll is then given a holographic tamper-proof numbered seal. This acts two fold, to indicate the authenticity of each roll and also acts as a protective stamp to ensure the coin rolls hold their value.

These holographic seals are by far the most important and innovative feature of our rolls. We spared no expense when it came to designing and producing these holographic seals, but a last minute change was necessary to incorporate our logo and COA in to the hologram itself. Due to the high expense and difficulty of incorporating this in to the holograph it is usually a step that most companies don’t pursue. However, we wanted to ensure the highest quality and level of security of our rolls, so we went to the extra effort to make these changes. These intricate holographs are normally reserved for the highest levels of security, which makes them virtually impossible to replicate.

We wanted to guarantee the authenticity of our rolls and ensure that they held their value for you, the collector. That is why we went to the extra effort to create these holographic seals, something that has never been done in Australia.

Once the seals are placed on to the coin rolls, they are then sent to our happy customers carefully and lovingly packaged.

We are currently rolling both the 2016 Cotton & Co Certified Uncirculated Coin Rolls of Olympic & Paralympic $2 Coins and the 2016 Uncirculated 50th Anniversary of Australian Decimal Currency 10 Cent Pieces. Both of these coin sets are a very limited release and in mint condition, its no wonder we don’t have many left!

Cup of coffee sparks enduring romance

Marisa Stefanovich • 27

Michael and I just celebrated our fifth anniversary as a couple and have been living together (in Ascot) for two years and two months. We met when I was working in a cafe and he was in the office upstairs and used to come down every day for his coffee.

I asked who he was and we started talking. I was pretty obvious that I liked him. He asked me to his birthday and we went from there.

We soon became inseparable. The fact that he is ridiculously lovely is what drew me to him in the beginning. He is so loyal and very generous; he would do anything for you.

I started doing some of the graphic design for Michael’s jewellery company Cotton & Co a year after we got together. My (graphic design and jewellery) company Marisa Kate Designs is now under the umbrella of Cotton & Co. As a graphic designer I mostly design the website, although I have helped design collections.

I’d call Michael an entrepreneur because he’s always got so many ideas going on. He works a lot at the moment and we are both so busy.

I have to drag him away from work because he will do it until he sleeps. He’s a workaholic.

My head office for Cotton & Co used to be at West End, above the cafe where Marisa worked. I would be designing jewellery while she made my coffee.

We have designed a couple of jewellery collections together, which is something I enjoyed, although we did have some differences of opinion. She’s a bit more levelheaded and down to earth than I am. If I go a bit crazy with my ideas, she brings things back to a level that’s more manageable.

Marisa’s a lot more classic and simple in her styling, whereas I like antique styles with attention to detail. I think they both have a place in the market so it’s good that we can get a balance between the two of us.

We go overseas a lot for work to source our gems from Brazil and Africa, and we have them cut in Thailand.

I would say I’m romantic. I like to surprise Marisa, and I’m taking her to New York and Fiji in September. We both love travelling and we also try to be active and outdoorsy. I also buy flowers regularly; I don’t need reminding to do it.

I try to separate work and play, but it’s hard to relax and have down time when you’re trying to build a business. I usually work seven days a week, but Marisa made sure I had four days off over Easter.

Ambassador Series

While Cotton & Co, Marisa Kate Designs and Bowerbird Australia are all owned and operated by Michael Cotton and Marisa Stefanovich, like any family, these three brand “siblings” couldn’t have more varied “personalities”.

To celebrate the diversity, and further the variety of different customers that can enjoy these three jewellery brands, we partnered with three Brisbane fashion influencers to capture the essence of the Cotton & Co, Marisa Kate Designs and Bowerbird Australia muses.

Cotton & Co, and what we like to refer to as the head of our family, is a jewellery brand that reflects sophistication, timelessness and quality.

Comprising of several collections, the coin designs are our most recognizable, and Cotton & Co is in fact the largest stockists for authentic and historical coins used for jewellery, in the country.

This year Cotton & Co welcomes two new collections to our offering, Luloah & Saphira, both of which boast stunning high quality stones, in ornate and modern settings. These new collections have injected a kaleidoscope of colour to the otherwise muted Cotton & Co palette, offering the perfect luxury option for coloured gemstone lovers.

When brainstorming a perfect fashion candidate, who embodies the Cotton & Co’s aesthetic, we couldn’t go past one of our favourite “girl bosses” and recently announced Editor of Style Magazines – Christie Sutherland.

Christie oozes sophistication with a side of glamour. In her personal style she takes wardrobe staples and integrates these with fashion forward pieces. Whether she is wearing a feminine dress, or modern jumpsuit, Christie layers her Cotton & Co classics giving her overall look a polished feel.

MKD plays the part of the vibrant and playful sister in the Cotton & Co family. The jewellery collection, which is one facet of the MKD graphic design and creative business, is a simplistic collection of beautiful shapes in silver settings, brought to life with pop-coloured stones.

Worn layered up or one piece at a time, MKD pieces are perfect the feminine and young at heart.

With that in mind, MKD made for the perfect partnership with Brisbane fashion blogger Isabella Thompson aka Style Market.

Isabella’s Instagram feed is as bubbly and bright as her personality. We adore her take on integrating colour into everyday outfits, and her gorgeous smile is contagious.

Isabella shows us how to play with different colour-pops wearing her favourite picks from the latest MKD pieces.

Bowerbird is the quirky little sister in the Cotton & Co family.

With an amazing charity affiliation with Edgar’s Mission, where with every piece sold Bowerbird contributes to the fresh water, food, medical access and safety of farm animals in need, this is certainly a brand that goes above and beyond aesthetics.

The beautiful Origami inspired designs in fine sterling silver, make Bowerbird a collection that can be worn everyday, with every outfit.

The gorgeous Kate Nutting from Pretty Dresses In The Laundry is the perfect brand ambassador for this unique jewellery collection.

Kate perfects street style with her alternative styling, pairing vintage tee’s with cute overalls and lives in her favourite Adidas Originals.

Girly with a side of cool, Pretty Dresses in the Laundry looks stunning in layered Bowerbird pieces, worn with paisley and floral garments, and even just a classic plain white tee.

When designing jewellery and creating a brand, we have a vision of the amazing customer in mind. Who wears our pieces, where does she shop, what does she read, what coffee does she order?

We were so delighted with the opportunity to collaborate with these 3 Brisbane fashion influencers, to see how they brought our collections to life, and they certainly did not disappoint.
